Cheapest Medigap Plan G and Plan N by State
Every insurer’s Plan G is the same coverage, so the premium is what you’re comparing. There’s no federal Medigap price list, so we rank the official rate tables that state insurance departments publish, using each table exactly as printed.

States don’t publish rates on the same basis (Alaska, Colorado, Maryland and New Jersey split rates by sex; Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, New York, Vermont and Washington show one rate for 65 and older; Iowa and Maine publish yearly premiums), so compare insurers within a state, not states with each other. Plans open only to members of an association, Medicare SELECT and high-deductible plans are shown on each state page but not ranked with standard plans.
Massachusetts: its own plans
Massachusetts doesn’t sell the lettered plans, so there’s no Plan G or Plan N there. Its Core, Supplement 1 and Supplement 1A plans are ranked on their own page: the lowest Supplement 1A premium on the state’s list is $2,798.88 a year (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Medex)).
States we don’t rank yet
- Arkansas: Arkansas’s rate tables are in the April 2025 SHIIP Quick Guide and don’t say which age, sex or rate class they are for. Arkansas’s official guide
- Delaware: Delaware’s 2026 Medicare Supplement guide doesn’t print premiums; it asks readers to call the Delaware Medicare Assistance Bureau (302-674-7364) for a rate comparison. Delaware’s official guide
- Nevada: Nevada’s premium comparison guide shows rates as of October 1, 2025, more than 12 months old. Nevada’s official guide
Every other state’s Medigap shopper’s guide (and whether it publishes premiums) is on Medigap by state. Medicare.gov’s Medigap policy search shows insurers and price ranges for any ZIP code.
How we rank
Within each state, every insurer’s standard Plan G and Plan N are ranked by the yearly premium at 65 (12 × the monthly premium), using its best published rate class that isn’t a tobacco rate. Ties go to the lower premium at 75 where the state shows it. Next to each premium we show the insurer’s pricing method and, where published, what it charges at 75, because a policy that’s cheap at 65 can become expensive if it’s priced on attained age. Premiums are copied exactly as the state printed them; a state’s table is ranked only while it’s 12 months old or newer. Full methodology.
The ranking is a starting point. Rates change through the year and your quote depends on your age, ZIP code, health and timing. Get written quotes, and use your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period if you can: insurers can’t refuse you or charge more for health problems during it.
