Cheapest Medigap Plans in Massachusetts

Massachusetts doesn’t sell the lettered Medigap plans. It has its own three: Core, Supplement 1 and Supplement 1A. Each covers the same benefits whichever insurer sells it, so we rank every insurer on the state’s list by its yearly premium for each plan.

How we rank

We take each insurer’s monthly premium for each plan straight from the Massachusetts list and multiply by 12 to get the yearly cost. Where the list shows an old and a new rate, we use the one in effect now and note the other under the insurer. Lower ranks higher; ties go to the insurer’s name. We don’t estimate, round or adjust any premium. Optional riders (Blue Cross’s preventive care rider, Tufts’s dental rider) are noted, not added. Full methodology.

Before you buy: get a written quote from the insurer and check Medicare.gov’s Medigap policy search. Every insurer on the list offers continuous open enrollment. Massachusetts’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHINE) gives free, unbiased help.

Questions

Why doesn’t Massachusetts have Medigap Plan G or Plan N?

Massachusetts is one of three states (with Minnesota and Wisconsin) that standardized Medigap before the federal lettered plans, so it sells its own plans instead: Core, Supplement 1 and Supplement 1A. Each plan covers the same benefits from every insurer.

What is the cheapest Medigap Supplement 1A plan in Massachusetts?

In the Massachusetts Division of Insurance list (updated December 29, 2025), the lowest Supplement 1A premium from an insurer open to all applicants is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Medex), $233.24 a month ($2,798.88 a year). Supplement 1A covers the Part A deductible but not the Part B deductible.

What is the cheapest Medigap Core plan in Massachusetts?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Medex), $142.64 a month ($1,711.68 a year). Core pays the basic benefits only, so you pay the Part A and Part B deductibles and skilled nursing facility coinsurance yourself.

Can I buy Supplement 1 in Massachusetts?

Only if you were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. Supplement 1 also covers the Part B deductible, which federal law no longer lets new Medigap policies cover. The lowest Supplement 1 premium on the list is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Medex), $288.55 a month ($3,462.60 a year).

Where do these Massachusetts Medigap rates come from?

From the Massachusetts Division of Insurance: “Medicare Supplement Plans Offered in Massachusetts 2026” (updated December 29, 2025). We copy the premiums exactly as published and rank them; we don’t estimate or adjust them.
