How we rank

We take each insurer’s premium for Plan G and Plan N at 65 straight from Alaska’s official guide and multiply monthly premiums by 12 to get the yearly cost. Each insurer appears once, at its best published rate class that isn’t a tobacco rate. Lower ranks higher; ties go to the lower premium at 75 where the guide shows it, then the insurer’s name. We don’t estimate, round or adjust any premium. Full methodology.

The cheapest policy at 65 isn’t always the cheapest later. An attained-age policy goes up as you get older, an issue-age policy is priced on your age when you buy, and a community-rated policy charges everyone the same. How the three methods compare.

Before you buy: get a written quote from the insurer, ask how its rates have risen, and check Medicare.gov’s Medigap policy search. Your State Health Insurance Assistance Program gives free, unbiased help. Buying during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period means insurers can’t turn you down or charge more for health problems.

Questions

What is the cheapest Medigap Plan G in Alaska?

In the rate guide from the Alaska Division of Insurance (2026 edition (PDF dated May 29, 2026); each insurer’s rate effective date is shown), the lowest Plan G premium at 65 from an insurer open to all applicants is: Female: First Health Life & Health Insurance Company, $1,776 a year ($148 a month); Male: First Health Life & Health Insurance Company, $1,776 a year ($148 a month). Your own quote depends on your age, ZIP code, health and the date you apply.

What is the cheapest Medigap Plan N in Alaska?

Female: First Health Life & Health Insurance Company, $1,188 a year ($99 a month); Male: First Health Life & Health Insurance Company, $1,188 a year ($99 a month). Plan N has copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for emergency room visits and doesn’t cover Part B excess charges, which is why it usually costs less than Plan G.

How much do Plan G premiums vary between insurers in Alaska?

Plan G benefits are the same from every insurer, but in this guide the yearly premium at 65 runs from $1,776 to $3,504. Insurers also price future increases differently (attained-age, issue-age or community-rated), so compare the older-age premiums too where they’re shown.

Where do these Alaska Medigap rates come from?

From the Alaska Division of Insurance: “Consumer Guide to Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) 2026” (2026 edition (PDF dated May 29, 2026); each insurer’s rate effective date is shown). We copy the premiums exactly as published and rank them; we don’t estimate or adjust them.
