What these rates are. Yearly premiums from the Maine Bureau of Insurance chart, one per company and plan, with separate non-smoker and smoker rates where the company prices them. The chart doesn’t show rates by age or sex. Where a company has filed a new rate, the chart shows it with its effective date; we rank the current rate and note the new one. Plans F2 and G2 in the source are the high-deductible versions. Source: the Maine Bureau of Insurance, chart as posted October 22, 2026; the page shows no date. Rates change during the year and your quote depends on your age, ZIP code, health and when you apply, so treat this as a shortlist and get quotes.

Plans with membership or eligibility limits

These plans appear in the Maine guide but aren’t open to every resident (for example, AARP plans require AARP membership) or are Medicare SELECT plans with a provider network, so we list them as published instead of ranking them.

How we rank

We take each insurer’s premium for Plan G and Plan N at 65 straight from Maine’s official guide and multiply monthly premiums by 12 to get the yearly cost (${s.name}’s guide lists yearly premiums, which we use as printed). Each insurer appears once, at its best published rate class that isn’t a tobacco rate. Lower ranks higher; ties go to the lower premium at 75 where the guide shows it, then the insurer’s name. We don’t estimate, round or adjust any premium. Full methodology.

The cheapest policy at 65 isn’t always the cheapest later. An attained-age policy goes up as you get older, an issue-age policy is priced on your age when you buy, and a community-rated policy charges everyone the same. How the three methods compare.

Before you buy: get a written quote from the insurer, ask how its rates have risen, and check Medicare.gov’s Medigap policy search. Your State Health Insurance Assistance Program gives free, unbiased help. Buying during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period means insurers can’t turn you down or charge more for health problems.
