About YourBestHealthPlans

Medicare and ACA Marketplace plans, ranked by what they are likely to cost you in a year, using the plan data insurers file with the federal government.

Why this site exists

Every fall, millions of people pick a health plan from a list sorted by monthly premium. The premium is only part of the bill. The deductible, copays and the out-of-pocket maximum decide what a plan really costs in a bad year, and most comparison sites never add them up. We do.

YourBestHealthPlans is part of the YourBest network, alongside YourBestSavings, YourBestCards, YourBestLoanRates and YourBestTaxes. The same rule applies on every site: products are ranked by math, not by who pays.

Ranked by math

Plan data comes from the files the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publishes each year: premiums, deductibles, out-of-pocket limits and star ratings. Our methodology shows how we turn those into an estimated yearly cost at a few levels of medical use, and how ties are broken.

We are not an insurance agent or broker, and we don’t enroll anyone. We’re not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. government or the federal Medicare program. No insurer can pay to be included in or ranked higher in our rankings. How the site is funded →

What a ranking can’t tell you

Whether your doctors are in a plan’s network and how a plan covers your specific drugs are personal. Before you enroll, check both in the official tools: Medicare Plan Finder for Medicare, and HealthCare.gov or your state’s Marketplace for ACA plans. Free one-on-one Medicare counseling is available from your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at shiphelp.org.
