How we rank
We take each insurer’s premium for Plan G and Plan N at 65 straight from Connecticut’s official guide and multiply monthly premiums by 12 to get the yearly cost. Each insurer appears once, at its best published rate class that isn’t a tobacco rate. Lower ranks higher; ties go to the lower premium at 75 where the guide shows it, then the insurer’s name. We don’t estimate, round or adjust any premium. Full methodology.
The cheapest policy at 65 isn’t always the cheapest later. An attained-age policy goes up as you get older, an issue-age policy is priced on your age when you buy, and a community-rated policy charges everyone the same. How the three methods compare.
Before you buy: get a written quote from the insurer, ask how its rates have risen, and check Medicare.gov’s Medigap policy search. Your State Health Insurance Assistance Program gives free, unbiased help. Buying during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period means insurers can’t turn you down or charge more for health problems.
